Starting Issues

I've begun to have an issue starting my CTD. After the truck is warm when I try to restart the truck I only get a click. No turning over, just a click, I hear the FASS run normally, the "wait to start" light goes off, but no turn over. I then wait a few seconds, go through the process again and she starts normally. Batteries are fine and engine charges fine. This happens very rarely, but it makes me worry. Any thoughts?

The click you hear would be the starter solenoid moving, the fact there is no stater rotation is probably because of the solenoid contacts are bad. This is a fairly common problem and there are heavy duty ones available. I have the link somewhere but I couldn't find it. If you do a search on here for starter contacts I'm sure you'll find them.

Be sure and check batteries separately. Another member just put two starters on because of almost DEAD batteries. The contacts are very likely otherwise. No need to replace assy. Very little else ever fails. JMHO

I second the starter contact change! Easy to do and saves you a ton of cash.
Safety first, remove both neg clamps before starting work or you'll be welding wrenches..

Thanks for the responses. Batteries are new and strong, so I believe it's the worn contacts. Is the rebuild something someone with low to mediim skills can handle? I'm not a professional mechanic, but I'm good at taking things apart and putting them back together if they are simple.
