so bands or no bands in trans?
so bands or no bands in trans?
im still new to the diesel world. I own a 01, auto an lately is being to slip alittle bit into 2nd. I let off an it grabs an it fine, now ive had some people tell me there are bands to adjust ive had others say there not.. so im lost. lol.. do you think my trans needs a rebuild or just some adjusting?.
I talked with a mechanic and I guess there no adjusting for the 2nd gear. its just 1st and reverse. so I guess its time for new trans.. mine has like 180k. im not sure if its original or not. I think im the 3rd owner so.
Any one have advice for a new trans? I do towing a lot. but not looking at 500hp. all I have is a tuner an intake. but someday probably will do a little upgrading, but not looking to drag race it

Wanting is one thing, being able to pay for it is another. The billet stuff is expensive and adds up fast. Your going to have to decide where to draw the line. If you leave out the billet shafts and go top quality on most everything else you'll do good. Mine was $3400 including R&R.

The front band is applied in 2nd gear, and can be adjusted without removing the oil pan.
The adjuster is a little bit above the place where the shifter goes into the transmission.
Clean threads on adjuster, oil lightly, tighten adjuster to 72 inchpounds and back off the adjuster 1 7/8 turns.
Tighten locknut to 30 foot pounds.

Well sorry to rain on your "mechanic's" parade.
