I have a 47RE Auto Tranny with 76,000 miles on it. I want to adjust my bands for the it's first time but not sure how big of a deal it is. I have good CD manual that tells me how to do it but I sure would like to hear from some of yall that have done it. Would it be better for me just to take it in and have a shop do it??

 

If you understand the process you can do it.
You are simply going to loosen the jam nut/turn the center bolt in till snug(72 inch lbs ) and then turn it out the required number of turns/tighten lock nut. When tightening the locknut make sure the bolt does not turn.
Front band is externally adjusted and the rear is internal. Must drop the pan.

 

Just want to re-state that the measurement is inch pounds not foot pounds.

 

It's a pretty simple process, especially if you have the manual. I have done it twice now...

Hey thanks yall for the info. Are there any special tools I need other than the Torque Wrench.

 

The front band you will need a tork bit (can't remember the size) and a box end wrench. (can't remembver the size either)
