I did a seach, and didnt find anything, can anyone tell me how to adjust bands, or is it somthing the dealer should do for me. I pull a 9000lb 22ft race trailer most of the time and I feel the tranny is starting to slip.

now its all over, i was planning on the reliable stock truck and never doing anything exept for the maintenance.
I finally called the dealer and found out that i have the 48re, so i suppose that is good news.
so the question is is it easy to do or should i get the dealer to do it?.

I think it is easy, and feel that most people who are not turned off by getting dirt under their nail would be able to do it also. You would need to look-up the torque specs for the two bands, (Mine is 72 in/lbs), and what the back-off is. Then it's just a matter of drooping the pan, tightening the band bolt to there required torque, and backing them off the right amount (usually around 2 1/2 turns). That is really all there is, put the pan on and top off with fluids. I think the adjustment is good, but I would bet the slip you notice is your Torque Converter. Good luck.

The Front (kickdown) band adj. screw is on the L.H. side of the trans. just above the manual & throttle levers. To adjust loosen the locknut, turn screw a couple turns to make sure threads are clean and that screw turns freely. Tighten to 72 "#. , Back screw off exactly 1- 3/4 turns. Hold screw in this position and tighten locknut.
The messy part is next. Remove oil pan so you can get to the adj. screw for the Rear (Low/Reverse) band. Loosen locknut and torque screw to 72"#. Back off 3 turns and tighten locknut. Bands are now adjusted to DC specs. Most Chrysler transmissions are all torqued to 72"# but the 'back off' is different on some others. I checked my 2003 Ram factory Service Manual to make sure I have the correct specs for the 48re.
I would always replace the filter when I removed the pan. Just remove the screws (2 -3) and pull filter off. Replace and tighten screws to 35"#. DO NOT over tighten as you could warp aluminum valve body. Torque on pan bolts is 125"#..
Add the specified ATF+4 (synthetic) fluid. Do not overfill.

wow those are some sweet instructions, i'll probably tackle it myself. i have 26,500 miles on my truck and i am always pulling my trailer. the dealer will tell me whats going on with the tranny today, its in getting a new cooler because of the Recall. so i'll probably do it my self unless you think i should let them do it because i do have the "slipping".

If there has been problems with the cooler, - could have something to do with slipping. Heat is an automatic trans. worst ememy, and towing is hard on an automatic as it produces more heat. It's the very reason I got the 6 spd. manual.

Since the trans. is Not due for service and it is slipping, I think I would not touch it and strongly insist on a total rebuild or replacement. I started rebuilding and troubleshooting automatic transmissions in 1958 and know that once a trans. starts slipping it will not hold up very long. They may adjust and service it and it may be OK for a while but I would not trust it far from home. Be my luck it would last until 36,001 miles on it.
At the very least I would get it in writting from the dealer that it was slipping so when it goes out there would be proof of defects before warranty ran out.

I spent the bucks on a 5 year 100,000 mile dodge warranty so im good for a while, the truck is going into the dealer, I had it in for the recalls and they replaced the cooler. the tranny tech looked at my fluid and said it was "mighty dark" and he wouldnt be surprised if sonthing wasnt normal, they are going to do the service on the tranny ( so he can see what kind of junk is in there) but at least i have the 100,000 miles for it to implode
