Sealent on diff and nv 5600
Sealent on diff and nv 5600
I'm new to the site, this is my first post. I read a comment on the disscussion forum, that when resealing your diff and tranny with sealent you should be careful not to use too much, because loose particles (sealent) could damage bearings?. I just changed my rear diff and tranny fluid this week with Redline 80w-140 in the rear and MTL in the trans. I used "The Right Stuff" sealent from NAPA. It says its sets up in five minutes and is ready for service immediately. I did wait longer than 5 min before refilling but the outside was a little wet. Should I be worried about any "Rogue" particles. Will the sealent set up even though it is submerged in fluid?
Re:Sealent on diff and nv 5600
Not to worry. We seal them up and fill them up on a regular basis. We use Permatex Ultra Black RTV. Sealant is soft, and I have yet to see documented damage to components from overuse. I believe that you will be just fine. If not, we'll be in the same boat, as my covers went on, and refill took place within a short time. ;D

I have not used a gasket on a differential in over 12 years. This includes all of my off-road Jeeps, which get changed, and inspected on an absurdly routine basis. Sealant has always been fully set-up. 8)

Welcome to the site!

I like the red Hi Temp RTV and have had no problems. I put it on both surfaces, let it skim over, tighten it lightly till it just squishes out and let it set over night. Come back the next day and tighten and fill and drive.
