Dumbest Question of the Year

My 5 and 6 spd shift pattern placard (on the handle grip) seems to spin around throughout the week. I can't spin either of them manually. I cant turn the handle grip on the shifter either. At first I thought I was imagining things until I started looking at my 5spd every morning before I drive off. What am I missing here?

Re:Dumbest Question of the Year

Press real hard with the palm of your hand on the shift-pattern insert and turn. I think you'll be able to move it.

Re:Dumbest Question of the Year

Just pop that little pattern piece out from the top and you will find that it has a clear glue on the bottom. Clean it off if you can and re-insert with a blob off silicone, make sure tightening nut on gearshift **** is tight first. PK

Re:Dumbest Question of the Year

All the guys I know with 02's have the same problem, myself included. You just pry it out and re-insert it the right way. About every month and a half, mine ends upside down.

Re:Dumbest Question of the Year

Mine has done the same thing, keep forgetting to ask the dealer to fix it when I get the oil changed. Doesn't bother me, but I need to teach my wife (never driven a stick) how to drive my truck and it needs to be orientated correctly first so she can see what the shift pattern is.<br>On the side, is this a bad idea? (teaching my wife how to drive a standard with this truck) If anyone else has had to do this, which seemed like it would break first, the truck or the marriage?

Re:Dumbest Question of the Year

Look in the member photo section on page two under dieseldude4x4's pics and hobbies to see how I fixed mine. No more rotating shift patterns. ;D
