Diff Sealent

I'm heading out to chg my diff fluids in about 15 min.

The Mopar sealent says to "let cure".

Does that mean completly dry? No tackiness?
About how long to "cure"? The tube doesn't say.

I used the Mopar sealant last fall. I let it "tack" up then attached the cover, lightly tightening the cover and left it for 12 hours, then I cranked down on the bolts and filled 'er up. But, I've also seen shop guys attched the cover and immediately fill it up, and the customer drive off, so........

That's why I use Loctite 5182 Flexible Cure Anaerobic Sealant.
No waiting to cure or dry. I've heard of quite a few folks developing leaks who have driven their trucks right away after reinstalling the cover. No problem with the Loctite, the extra price is well worth it.

I NEED TO GO BACK TO WORK!
I'm getting too old to be crawling around under trucks!

At least I'm 50% done. Now that I've passed the learning curve, the front won't be so bad.

I managed to smear red sealer goop on the cover, but that will clean up later. I let the sealer get tacky before I put it back on and got a good edge "squeeze" when I tightened it down. I waited about three hours before I dove it. The only odd thing was that one of the bolts had a different size head on it. The oil felt fairly clean with no noticable grit in it, but it smelled as if it had been a little hot. The magnetic plug had some very fine pieces of metal on it, but not a lot. I drove it 40 miles home and made one stop to check for leaks and checked it again when I got home. So far, so good.

I just can't wait until morning so I can do the front! (right)

I just took off the PTO cover plate on my tranny, it uses the same sealent.

I like to let it cure over night. The tube says it cures in 24 hours.
