p1693 Fault Code, Whats it really mean?
I've been thinking the truck is just not running quite right, just cant put my fingers on exactly what I think is not right. So I pulled the fault codes (no check engine light EVER) and got a P1693 code. When I looked it up found some gibberish about DTC engine compainion module blah blah blah...
Did a google search and one fellow had that code(over on TDR), went to dealer and it came back as an overboost code, see sig, I am pretty much bone stock.
Anybody have any idea what it really means, or if it means the same thing every time?
Thanks,
DuaneW.

Well, there is no easy answer for the 1693 code - it means what it means......it is a code set off in the PCM that lets you know there is another code not in the PCM (the actual DTC is occurring most likely in the ECM) that is not retrievable without the right scanner. Before you do anything, clear the 1693 and see if it returns.....it is possible a soft code in the ECM set off the 1693 and may not return - it is worth a shot...

lol no sorry, forgot to change the signature!
Its a 01 2500 5spd.
Im getting the fass put on today , hopfully this will help. The truck runs great, just sluggish from time to time. Not often, Shut the truck off wait a min and start back and its fine? Also will a boost code trigger 1693?
And just for reffrence perps, i wouldnt think the ip would be the cause of the higher boost, i figure maybe the truck has been programmed and a big head waste gate on it or somthing?
The 95 got totaled ... the one time i was running anything under 100mph . i was acctully running 45 in the fog, met a car, there was no white line, well it dropped off the sholder ..... and the sholder went with it, 8 inches of mud for a sholder that headed right for a 19 ft culvert and a really big pine tree, lets just say the crank came out the back of the transfer case .... yep the crank.... I about cried when i realized i wrecked my $60,000 baby :O

Ok that explains it! I am sorry to here about your 95. I hope you were not hurt.
My experience is that the 0234 overboost code does not trigger the 1693.....thye 1693 is masking something else in the ECM.....the most likely cause of a 0234 on a stock truck is a sticky wastegate....
You should clear the 1693 and see if it returns.....if it does, it is time to go to the dealer and have them pull the hidden codes in the ECM...

Mine threw the same code by pulling the fuel system relay, put it back in and the check engine light went off after the 3 starts, but the code still comes up on the od when i turn the kay 3 times. I'm having problems starting my stock 2000 when the engine is warm. it has 185k miles, and the lift pump tested good. Any ideas????
