P0500
An Employee came back from a Hot Shot in the mountains and I noticed a loss in power once i drove the truck home. I did the key trick and P0500.
Did any of you hear of this before, suggestions.
The truck is a 2001 with 250,000Miles & an Edge EZ, towed most of its life.

According to the 2000 Service manual, the P0500 is no vehicle speed sensor signal. It also states you should have the MIL indication with this code. Basically a vehicle speed sensor was not detected.

The wheel speed sensors are part of the Antilock system. Why it would effect engine performance is beyond me. I don't thinks the PCM or ECM would really care as to what the Controller Antilocks Brake (CAB) is doing. Not all Vehicles have the 4 wheel ABS with the EBD, which elimanted the combination/proportioning valve. For the Rear Wheel AntiLock system, which I think most all trucks had, the rear wheel speed sensor is on top of the differential. ITs an easy change out. Its the only thing with a wire harness there, one can't miss it. For the full ABS with EBD, the front wheel sensors pass through the back of the steering upright (knuckle) for the 2wd, and in the top of the bearing hub on the 4wd.
For whats it worth. Why the power loss, I don't know. You might have had this speed sensor DTC for some time. Since the MIL is not on, the ECM or PCM certainly don't care if the error code posted. Does the vehicle have Cruise Control? The CAB does send to the PCM that information to store in RAM for cruise.
