Oil tips??

changed my oil again today and every time that i do when pulling the filter off is there any trick to not spilling oil everywhere on the frame or air tubes? because of the 4x4 auto. options my hood is pretty tight in that part but i cant seem to get it out without spilling it because it has to be turned..so are there any tips in oil changing that i dont know about?

Thanks
Asa

After loosening the filter until it turns freely by hand I slide a large zip-loc plastic bag up around the filter. When it spins off it simply drops into the bag and I lift it out. All the drips will drip into the bag also.

Same, I just wrap a grocery bag around it(any type of bag near by) and then once it falls loose, it all goes into the bag.

You can also easily take off the turbo boot. This will provide much beter access to the filter. I normally never spill but a drop or 2.

These are great tips. But I notice if I let the truck sit for a while before I change the oil. There is less oil in the filter and I dont spill a drop.?? Anyone else notice this?

That's how I try and do it , it also gives the IP time to drain out.

Letting it sit also allows the oil to cool a bit. When I did the grocery bag trick, I did it while the engine was still plenty warm, melted right through the bag and had a good size mess. So now I let my oil drain completely, then pull the filter, easy as pie.

Mine does that too, lovinCTD59, if I let it sit a bit before I take the old filter off. But the bag idea is a good one, too.
