Oil pressure gauge problems
Oil pressure gauge problems
So the other day I'm driving into town and my oil pressure gauge drops to 0 and my check gauges light comes on
So I pull over and shut the truck off, let it sit for a few minutes and started it back up and gauge jumped right up to normal. Start driving again and notice the gauge is climbing real high...like 80 or 90 and then slowly comes back down and then........back to 0 again.
It comes and goes which leads me to believe it's a sender???? Anybody have this same problem before???

I had the same symptoms a while ago and replaced the sender...all is fine now. I borrowed a mechanical gauge from a neighbor to be sure and it turned out to be the sending unit. I hear you can get them at NAPA and places like that...I got mine at the dealership and it was expensive but has worked for two years.
Hopefully that will fix it!

That's what I'm thinking, it doesn't act like the pump is bad......just the gauge being goofy!!!! How hard was it to replace the sender and where is it located?? If I remember right it's down below the fuel filter somewhere...........???
Thanks for your reply!!!!!

The sending unit is below the fuel filter on the drivers side just above the pan. Oil will spill out a little but hopefully it won't make a huge mess. Oil pumps failing on these is pretty rare from what I hear so I hope it is just the sending unit.
You will need a 1 1/4" socket that is very deep. At least that's what I needed on my 2001. I just brought the unit to Pep Boys and bought the right socket.
Good luck and I hope this helps.
