Oil leak behind PS Pump on a 2001

My friend has a 01 and it has that leak that is behind the PS pump. ALmost positive it is oil and not PS fluid. I heard that it is an easy fix. Anyone got info on that???

Thanks

Kip

It's the vacuum pump that's leaking and yes it's easy. You can get a seal kit for @10 that comes with instructions and takes about 3 hrs to do. Be sure and pull the PS pump and vacuum pump as one unit because it's hard to get everything lined back up if not. This is where I got mine http://hoeslidiesel.com/store/

It very well could be your power steering pump. I had my vacuum pump sealed a year ago July. You could see the oil between the vacuum pump and power steering pump. My power steering just took a dive. It leaked bad at times and it looked like dirty crank case oil. They use transmission oil. It works fine now. I have to take it in after 5000 mi. to have it flushed out again. It was really dirty before.

Scott hey what's up bud...nice website...

I'm leaking ps fluid as well...one shop said it was the steering gearbox, still it may be the ps pump dunno yet...Len and I drove it around and the truck was making aweful noises so it seems like it's in the ps system... do you think it'd be wise to do the vacuum seal kit above at the same time...?

Need to determine if it is the PS pump or steering box. then get a reman unit and do the seal too if it is the pump.

I used the kit from fixin rams. It worked perfectly and the help the video gave and the provided tools was well worth it for me. I reccomend it. good luck with it, pretty easy job. toughest part was getting big hands in the tight places.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like we will get on it as soon as the truck can be still for a day.
