Oil leak behind tone ring

I have oil leaking from behind the tone ring. Other than that, I can't tell exactly where it is originating. Does anyone have an idea as to where the leak might be?

My truck is 1 month old with 4000 miles on it, so the dealer is going to fix it, but I was hoping someone had some idea what the cause is, so that I can make sure it gets fixed the first time.

Thanks ahead :: DJ

you could also look for droplets coming off of the injector pump. Mine is leaking and running down the front of the motor looking like a front main seal. After the pump is replaced it will get cleaned and inspected to see if it is leaking too. But I don't loose any oil just have poor mileage. Running empty the last month or so I can only get about 12-13 running around 60mph. I am hoping the pump cures what ale's me.

The leak is so small, it hasn't dripped any oil yet. I spotted it installing my Rokktech sensor. There is oil behind the tone ring, on the tone ring, and where the sensor is mounted, but no oil above that point (that I can see). I know it is leaking because the first time I installed the sensor, I wiped the oil off thinking it might just be run down from them putting oil in the motor the first time. When I changed the oil for the first time, there was new beads of oil forming in the same area.

I appreciate the replies everyone. I wish I could be there when they tear it down to find the leak. I'm not happy about having to do this on a new truck, but that's the way it goes. I've had the truck for a month and it only has 4000 miles on it.

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Smokin05,

I did not do the tone ring mod. I have the Rokktech sensor. I said that the leak is coming from behind the tone ring.

Mine has been like that since the first time I was under the truck. I don't know if it ever actually drips. just always looks wet. the last thing I am going to do is have someone tear into it and give it back worse than it is now.

goodluck.

where can a guy get a rokk tech sensor. I have been looking for a week now and can't find one. I have searched here and everybody that has installed one has now mentioned where they got it. Also how much are we talking??

I am considering doing something like this to my truck. It seems that the xzt is causing more problems than it's worth when you factor in the cp3, injector, and relief valve I have had replaced lately. I don't want to be doing those things after the warranty is up. I won't be able to afford to keep the xzt if it causes me $500.00 a month in parts.

This leak will develop into a drip. It just hasn't had time to build up on the block.

The tech looked at it today and called Star. They told him to replace the fuel injection pump which will take a week. I got under the truck and saw that the oil leak starts up by the fuel injection pump. It is an oil leak, not a fuel leak, so I am confused as to why they would be replacing it? Anyone?

When they told me this, I got under and looked and I agree that the oil leak is starting up by the FIP. Does anyone have an idea of what potentially is leaking? Is the CP3 really leaking oil? I didn't think it was oil feed, I thought it was lubricated by the fuel.
