My 02,s LAST DAY
Hi fellow owners. This may be my last thread and Dodge/Cummins, I do enjoy reading all this stuff, even if my truck don,t run. If you read my last thread, you may understand. Back to the dealer, $540. tow bill, $1463. to confirm the 1694 code and that it didn,t run, replace PCM and the trained rock (prom chip) and started for home. Just 70 miles from Safford to Cochise. Couldn't get er done. Got a ride home, fired up my 40 year old John Deere 4020 (it starts and runs at 0400 @ 10 degrees F. Peddeled the 12 miles to where the 02 quit me again and chained the piece of crap to old pokey and headed for the ranch. Three miles down the road, an Arizona DPS (Highway Patrol) stopped me. I told him the complete story. He couldn't figure out if I was breaking any laws so he wrote me a ticket for wasting resourses ($103.) and as we were stand there, a big YELLOW hummer ripped by us doing about 90 mph in the 45mph zone. The cop got back in his car, turned back to the freeway and never looked back at me or the hummer. Oh well, I made it home, Filled the Dodge's box with dirt and planted sunflowers in it and parked it in front. I decided that it would never leave me stranded again so I got my .308 and loaded it with 10 armor pearce rounds and put them all thru the block. I watched it bleed to the rest of its death, smiled an went in the house. So, if you get this way, stop to see my flower pot. Better luck to all of you, I'm off to buy a FORD. 85zulu out.

Well if you think a ford will be a cure all you had better pick up another box of bullets, more potting soil and sunflower seeds. Upgrade your insurance for towing coverage, and make peace with the highway patrol. You also may consider grieving counseling and attending church more often.

If you had the older 53 block (in the 1998.5-2000 engines), we would all recommend the actions you took.

"Truck is an 02, 2500, 2wd, auto, with 340K miles. She was running great, then 2 weeks"
I found this post from 85zulu. Wow, I hope I get to 340k before I get ready to get rid of mine. BOY will he be shocked what is has fixed on a ford IF it makes it to 340k. I agree there are issues but his mileage proves this cummins will pull hard for a long time. If it wasnt for the VP 44 he would have a couple hundred k left.

My truck just turned over 100,000 miles. Only thing I've replaced is the
lift pump for $103.00 in 5 years. Comes out to about $20.00 a year besides
the usual maintenance items

Somebody on here said once that there are no lemon trucks, just lemon repair shops. I think those were fairly intelligent words. While I don't recommend emptying your rifle into your repair shop like you did to your truck, (unless they are REALLY bad ) I think your truck may have been an innocent victim here. Not saying your repair shop is to blame because I haven't read your earlier thread. I have never had a truck of mine leave me stranded (not even my old Chev) and would be very disappointed if one had ever left me on the side of the road. But if your truck does actually have over 300k miles, I think it is entitled to a breakdown once or twice. I have always had great luck with Ford trucks but I think it comes down to the luck of the draw as to whether ANY vehicle made will get you home every single time for over 300k miles. If a Dodge truck doesn't live up to your expectations, I don't think anything else will either.
