Lock & Stitch 53 Block Repair

Does anyone know what this repair proceedure usually costs? Does the motor need to be removed from the truck? Is this the best repair for a cracked block?

Thanks

Ron

Motor - should be no need to remove it
Best Repair - a new (non 53) block

rjrkihap, let me try to be of some help to you, obviously Dr. Evil is not being nice!

Contact blh1960 (another DTR member) and pick his brain. I know he had the lock and stitch procedure done and he was very happy with the outcome. I know there are others, but I can't think of who. If I am not mistaken, the repair cost under $1,000 ... somewhere in the region of $700. The motor did not need to be removed for the repair.

Wish I could be more help! blh1960 should be able to enlighten you further!

Sorry, I dont mean to be blunt but the "best" repair is a new block. Yeah, lock n stitch or muggyweld may work (Im sure we have members that have had it done)...but Im not sure how many miles and what kind of use they put their trucks through. Maybe they would be so kind as to enlighten us??

Its your truck

Doing it right Now,,,, storx If you can get lock and stitch done for $370.00 DO IT...
The Lock And Stitch kit for the Cummins is $316.00 Delivered to my house..
I removed my right Fender and Shock and I have awesome access you can see the crack just fine AND get both hands in there easy. DON'T hesitate,, Don't replace the block(unless you have to much money,IF so get me one too) I HAVE Been in contact with Cummins They DO have a policy out for the #53 Block,,, IF you have UNDER 150000 mile they WILL help you out with the engine replacement ,,,, OF COURSE I have 167000 miles on mine,,, SO I am up the CREEK. BUT Thanks for buying Cummins.
This is an excellent repair don't hesitate.

In an engine that is used heavy, I would not trust it. Once you have the engine out and sitting in front of you and realize why it cracks, then you realize that it will continue to flex at that point. Would be good to sell it I guess if you would do that, but I would not try it on mine. And I have a perfect engine downstairs with 16k on it that would be a good candidate. The guts will make a good engine in another block some day. Looks like the head will go on mine later this week.

I have to agree with you Haulin_in_Dixie, If I was hauling heavy,or using my truck
for work,Making money with it, you bet I would put a new motor in it. But as much as I baby my truck and lack of funds you bet I am trying lock and stitch,Then I am on the search for a cheap truck (GAS) BEFORE The Injector pump goes,Or The KDP falls out,
