Lift pump info
Truck at high RPM was surging, sometimes when accelerating it felt like a misjetted quadrajet. Lift pump was showing no pressure readings. Somewhere I got ahold of info leading to Heath Diesel Power in Washington state. These guys sell parts and install. Bill at Heath Diesel informed me that Dodge doesn't sell the latest model lift pump. He informed me that Dodge still sells the lp with an aluminum seat. It was interesting to find out that the steel ball in the lp bounces against this seat 8000 times a mile. Anyways, Heath diesel sells the latest Cummins version lp that has the steel seat.
I thought I would save some freight and call Cummins here in Az. They had not heard of part #3990082. I called Heath diesel back and ordered the pump from them. The lp was $176.25 with two day freight. Installed it today and cured my problem. I just hope I didn't run without the lp long enough to start my vp down that road to inevitable failure. Right now at idle 15 lbs wot 10 lbs.
They say at Heath that right now they are selling new Bosch pumps for around $1300. I guess thats a good price.
