lift pump
I had a code (1693) on my 2001, took it to dodge they said i need a new lp. The truck still runs fine and no power loss. If I run it till it dies on me will it take any other parts with it. If i do need a new one is there anywhere i can get one for cheaper than $600, that is what they said one will cost. What Should I Do?

Yes and yes. Low fuel pressure from a bad LP will cause the injector pump to go bad. IP replace=$1200 to $2000. Buy your pump from Cummins or on line for about $150 and do it your self. You can find info here on how to do it.
Go here for a new LP and 4 banjo bolt washers to do the job. You might want to think about a fuel presure gauge. This will tell you when your lift pump is going for sure. your LP pressure should be 14 at idle and around 9 @ wide open throttle. http://www.hoeslidiesel.com./
