Lift Pump

I started seeing my fuel pressures getting lower and lower, then one morning I had no pressure on the guage. I took it in to the dealer and sure enough the lift pump is bad. They had to order one. It should be in today or tomorrow. The truck is still runing, but I have parked it until the pump is changed. I have 76000 on the truck now and it is going to be covered under waranty.
They also said I needed a new belt for $86 and one of my batteries would not pass the test and they would replace it for $100. I told them I would take care of the other things.
This is my first lift pump to go bad. I hope the new one will last longer than the first.

Good luck. My 24v had gone through 6 stock lift pumps by 80,000 miles

You are getting screwed on the belt and battery thats for sure. The belt is very easy to install, and the battery even easier.

if one battery is going out the other wont be far behind since they are basicly one unit. if you replace one only it may drag the other down sooner

You got good life out of that lift pump. There are many of us who would be happy if a lift pump would last 76k miles.

As for the optional services they want to sell you, consider their advice to be good, but take care of those items elsewhere. If you are mechanically inclined you can save big $$$ by doing the work yourself. Batterys are best replaced in pairs.

Good luck,
LBR

I got my truck back Friday. I think my pressure guage is not working right. I am still only geting at the most 5 lbs. of pressure. I remember ther was some air in the line going from the snubber to the guage, that may be causing some problems. I went ahead and changed the fuel filter when I got it home.
I sure do miss my EZ. I took it and my BHAF off before I carried it in to the dealer.
While at the dealer I looked at a 2004 2500 with the same options as my 2001, only it is Atlantic Blue. They want to trade me very badly. This is a $40000 truck, they offered me $21000 trade in on my 2001. With the rebates that would bring the price of the new truck to $29000. I don't think it is a good enough deal yet. They have called me on the phone, and while I was away Saturday the sales man came to my house Saturday and left hid card in my door.

Sales Rep came to your door???? WOW - that's a first. I guess the rules of engagement change when it's a $40,000 sale!

I am not as critical as many of the life pumps. Bad system design - yes. Bad pump (for what it is designed to do), I don't think so.

Key is to keep it from working too hard. I found The Wildcat Max Flow Fuel System does this chore very well and is one way to solve the problem (probably the least expensive) when adding HP. Even if it's just an EZ. My new pump has worked very well for 40,000 miles, even at 400+ hp.

If concerned about the future - Call Rod at Wildcat for full explaination of Lift Pump's need for a little help. http://www.wildcatdiesel.com/index.htm

Hi Bill,

Those numbers do not add up. $40,000 for the new truck less the $21,000 for the trade in leaves only $19,000 difference and that is before any rebates. Good luck with your decision.
