Yes, a brand NEW belt can and will squeak on a a 2nd. Gen. It's your engine coming to an abrupt stop and the accessories (belt) trying to continue on.

You can get one of those gatorback types, they all but completely silenced my oldtruck.

Ahhh, you could I suppose (I believe it is called "dressing"). Think about it, the belt rides on pulleys, lubing it would be a bad thing.

I personally never minded the shut down chirp, only changed mine cause I swapped the water pump and figured I might as well.

PJ is right my used to chirp all of the time with the original belt, then when It wore out I replaced it with a goodyear gatorback and its completly silent. I dont miss the chirp at all. Heck, my truck is loud starting up, running and shutting down. Now its just the first two!

It's the alternator chirping teh Belt. '06 + trucks have an overrunning clutch in teh alternator tpulley and it completely stops the chirp and belt creep that 3rd gens experiance with High RPM. However, teh kit can be retrofitted to the 2nd Gens. I think it was $175 and is an OE part available at teh Dealer. However, the Gatorback belt from GoodYear will stop teh chirp as well.

Personally I liked teh Chirp as it was a sign of a good tight motor. My truck no longer does it since I dropped the C/R about 1.5 points.

The owners manual even says it's normal to get the "chirp" on shutdown so it must be a good thing.
