lets play name that noise
lets play name that noise
Our question for this round:
The getrag is making some noise in nuetral, and some down the road as well, but engine noise covers it up.
Sounds pretty nasty at times. Sort of a rough bearing binding noise. Weird thing is I can press and release the clutch a few times and usually get it to almost completely go away.
The same noise also comes up under load between 2000 and 2200 rpm in a few gears.
Trans is also very difficult to get into 1st, 2nd, and Reverse at times here lately. No grinding at all, just will not go in.

Sounds like two separate issues to me. It sounds like the clutch isn't completely disengaging, in 1st gens this is often caused by a worn out master cylinder pushrod bushing. If the clutch pedal sits lower than the brake pedal, this is the cause of problem #2.
I'm thinking input or center bearing in the noise. I'd pull it out and fix it before it gets worse.
It's not unusual for these things to rattle at idle and low RPM, but they ought to shut up over 1800 RPM or so.

Talked to a shop that has worked on G360s (not easy to find it seems) and was recommended by a board member.
He says to bring it in, to him sounds like the pilot bushing is bad. I have a bearing kit for the trans as well that will go in while its out.
Hopefully the bill isn't to big. I don't have the time or special tools to do it right now.
