Ok... How do you know when it's time to replace injectors? My 1999 2500 4x4 has 223k miles on it, and to my knowledge has never had the injectors cleaned, inspected, or replaced. (I bought the truck with 93K miles on it) My fuel mileage has dropped off some in the last couple of years to the point where I'm averaging 15mpg. My truck still starts fine, but it does seem like it's down on power a bit since I bought it. There is a little white smoke when I start it too.
The only performance related equipment on the truck is a K&N in the stock air box replacement air filter, and I have Hypertech stage 2 tuning installed in it. Otherwise everything is stock...This is my work truck, pull the 5th wheel camper and horse trailer truck... so I really don't need much more than stock performance anyway.
How many miles should a person be able to get out of a set of injectors? What kind of results should I expect to see with some new OEM injectors? Have you replaced with OEMs and seen improved fuel mileage, and power? How long would you expect it to take if I were to tackle the project at home some nice day? (I am mechanically and technically oriented)
Thanks in advance for your answers...

I wouldnt get stockers, look into some RV275's, they will give you about 50 more hp but will probably up your mileage too. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge on the truck? If not its probably time for one and a new lift pump. Injectors are a simple install, should be lees than 2 hours total. Look here for istallation info.

No I don't have fuel pressure indication... I drove this truck fat dumb and happy for the first 4 years, and really didn't know that there were any issues with the lift pump.... Now I've replaced the lift pump twice in the last two years... I have a brand new airtex. I am planning to put it down on the frame rail this spring, and install gauges in my pillar at the same time.
I looked at the install info on the link you posted... It does look pretty straight forward, but I'm still wondering if this is something I should have done 50k ago, or how long to run a set of injectors before replacing.

Injectors can run a very long time as long as they were run through the tests before installing at factory, and as long as the engine is run hard every now and then to get cylinder temps up and help clean them. Some people will also try the Injector Cleaner stuff, but I'm not sure if that stuff works or not.
