hydro boost question

I bought a new hydro boost unit the other day. You have to swap the rod, spring and spring retainer from the old unit. I have no idea how to get the old one out.

Any advise?

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
A cutaway shows it to be a rubber locking cup on hydroboost end of rod. Should pull out with some effort. The seal should come off easily. FSM does not cover any unsual procedures for removing.

Yes, the rod you are referring to is the one that attaches to the brake pedal. The rubber cup on that rod was pretty easy to swap.

The rod I was referring to is the one on the master cylinder side. I figured it out tonight. There is a rod, a spring and a spring retainer on that end. The spring retainer will pull out after bending a little. You can then bend it back to properly reinstall it into he new unit.

A helpful hint: When pulling out and reinstalling the spring retainer stay out of the way. The spring will shoot it out like a rocket if you are not careful. That thing almost hit me in the face.
