Help! Lift pump and Injector pump!!!!!

I was driving my 01 dodge 2500 4x4 and it lost all power, it regaind power after a few seconds. the engine light came on. I took it to the dealership the next day, they said I had a transfer pump and a injector pump bad. This will cost $3,370 +tax. Is the dealership trying to get more out of me? Do you think I can get by with just replacing the lift pump? There was no other sign of failure. The truck was running great. Someone please help!!!!!

2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins HO, 4x4, stock

Turn your switch off and on three times. Read the codes from the Odometer. Injection pumps normally run around $1100 plus $400 core and you can get a FASS or Walbro setup from $300 to $650. Labor on the injection pump will be somewhere around 3 hours and the pump kits will take about 3 hours. Far cry from $3370.

I would agree, most diesel shops will charge half of what the dealer wants.

Read this, https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...=year+warranty, then read your warranty book. You may be able to get it covered under warranty. If you can't, go find a shop todo your work. Dealers rip you off left, right and center.

Interesting reading. Too bad my truck has over 200k on it and the VP is throwing the p0216. My lift pump went out about 30k ago, but that is still too late.

Last time I checked the DC reman VP for the 01 etc was around $1800. Lift pump conversion package to tank unit would run around $700+ to install......and add labor for the VP install and diagnosis.

.....I quote a rate using DC parts, but also have an aftermarket source that we use that can put the diag, VP, and original style lift pump + filter at a little under 2k. Not as cheap as doing it yourself, but close to a $1000 less than what it could have run and I find it comparable to what other shops charge for the job in our area. Even cheaper in some cases. Shop around if you can find another shop you are comfortable with.
