The good, bad and ugly of getting my new VP44

Just a little note about my experiance with ordering these things. I ordered one from RealDiesel Monday evening. It's now Thursday afternoon and haven't even gotten a confirmation on the order, much less any shipping info. No word whatsoever. This from a company that wants to do buisness exclusively via the internet. I cancelled the order today (still not actually talked to anyone) and called BlueChip. Their upgraded pump with some new internal components and new electronics will be here tomorrow. I have to give cudos to BlueChip for there professionalism, service, and for actually having a phone complete with someone to answer it.

I was told that it has a brass ring where they are prone to where and lose pressure inturnally. Also, it has a completely new controll box made to handle the heat of it's location. They have accually seen the solder melted off the curcuit board from the heat. This was developed due to a major company that uses trucks equiped with this pump complaining and insisting on an improvement in this area, I was told. The pump is $1600.00 bucks but it seems to be worth the money to me.

Extra is right. Chip is the only one that I've found that can get the FedEx variety pumps. We do some work for FedEx and I asked a buddy in vehicle maintenance about them and they are performing well. Out of a fleet of 70 trucks he said he used to do at least two a week! Now they may do two every six months. Big difference he said!

The housing with the brass sleeve for the timing piston will last
about 9 to 10 months. About then the piston wears the end towards
the closing cover and the piston will not advance
(ie dead pedal, white smoke)because it can twist enough to
bind up.
All remans from a bosch shop have the new computers on top.
And there are alot better prices out there

Q - If that is all the brass sleeve will last for, then what should you look for when buying a rebuilt pump?

TIA

Well, I installed my new BlueChip pump VP44 today(1600.00). Installed a new throttle position sensor also(450.00) . 5 hrs start to finish and i never did this before. Really wasn't that bad. I got the greasiest trying to find one of the mounting nuts after i dropped it and it didn't make it to the ground. She started after three 10 second turns, and then a 15 second turn. Ran rough for about 15 or 20 seconds and then, smooth as silk. I reprogramed it with my Superchips and it runs great. Perfect shifting and great power. I took my tank down and replaced the modual a couple months ago (those stupid metal tubes rusted again) and I think that was a lot harder.
