fuel probs on a '00 cummins?

this truck is my fathers(mine is a 12 valve) so i only have limited info. the top of his head area seems to be covered in raw fuel and you can definately smell it. i had him run it for me and saw small fuel/air bubbles around the injectors- tried to snug them a little and could not get it to stop. the truck seems to not start easily after sitting awhile( cranks 5-10 secs) so i am wondering if it could be because of this -or another problem(lift pump/fuel pump ?). also, when cruising with light throttle, it seems to reduce power for a couple secs-then come back to normal(you barely notice it but it does it). and sometimes it definately feels noticably slower with less power than it felt accelerating a couple of minutes before. i am hoping that his problems arent expensive or too involved-its his first cummins and he loves this truck more than any he has ever had. (its a '00 with a 5sp and 3.55 all is stock and all fluids and filters are brand new)

Go to a Cummins dealer or truck shop in your area.

You could also possibly have a bad lift pump.

Yea, go see the Cummins man. Sounds like its getting air back into the system when off causing it to crank longer to start. Its most likely something simple like a seat around the injector. I've never had any reason to get into mine yet, so I not really sure whats around the injector if anything.

The injector on a 24v is actually only accessible if you pull the valve cover. They set straight over the piston under the rockers. What the injector line screws to is a pass thru tube that has a rubber o ring to seal out the oil. Usually if the pass thru tube is leaking where it seats onto the side of the injector, you will develop some fuel in the oil. Alot of times with an injector line seating problem, it is better to loosen it off and then re-tighten instead of just torquing it down.
