fuel pump probs
Truck wouldn't start, check engine light on, dealer said injection pump is bad. wants to replace all with this retro kit costing $4000. They beat on the transfer pump and got the truck running, but said it wont last. My sons are telling me take it home buy new original equip. on the internet ( dont need to retro it into the tank) and do it yourself. Whats my best bet? 1998 Dodge 2500 24valve
Get it out of their hands VERY QUICKLY !
Take it home and then do a little reading here and decide what brand of EXTERNAL lift pump you would like and then put it on see how the truck performs.
Your injection pump may still be good since it fired up after the lift pump ran.
Their price of 4k is very high for the 2 pumps.
You need a fuel pressure gauge on that truck.

You could get the part much cheaper at a Cummins service center if your doing it yourself or let their mechanics do the work. You can trust that they'll do it right cause Cummins engines are all they work on.
