Help????

I'm not sure but I think the clutch is going out on my ride. The only way I know to describe it is that when driving I hear a sound that reminds me of a piece of wire being in the drive shaft and hitting something metal. It seems to be louder in Second and Thrid but occurs in all gears including reverse. I have lurked here for some time and there is a wealth of information. I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Also seems to be harder to get into 1st gear now. Thanks now in advance for all the help.

Sounds like an input bearing or throwout bearing. Does it slip under load? My '91 360 gasser sounded like what you describe when the throwout bearing went at 20K.

Don't notice a slip at any time loaded or not loaded. HOWEVER I think i may have found the problem. When I had my Muffler removed they did not put any of the hangers back in place, so i had about 5 foot of pipe with no hanger. After Driving it for a few minutes I noticed that it only happens when there is a certain tone in the exhaust (you all know thats how we determin things, Isn't the point of removing the muffler so you can hear the exhaust for problems.) not at a certain RPM so when i get home i put my foot on the tail pipe and it drops to point to the ground. The weld has broken where the muffler was removed. Hopefully what I am hearing is coming from exhaust vibration or those pipes sliding and banging together. I will not be able to get to the shop for welding until next weekend but i hope that fixes the problem. If anyone else has any ideals i would be glad to here them just in case this doesn't fix the problem. Thanks

How about a band clamp on the straight pipe? That and a hanger might cure it with no welding.

You don't need that pipe anyway, just loose it. You'll love the sound.

Wannadiesel, Good Ideal but i hate to pay for something that he will fix for free. Valkyrie97, Apparently thats what the guy at the shop though also, however the local pooolice tend to disagree, about once a year they pull every diesel over and remind us that we are suppose to have a silencer as they call it. The judge at the court house loves it when about 20 of us show up on Thursday, especially when we all fire us those sweet sounds to leave .
