Fuel Mileage?
May I say something about this.
Last time I heard someone who got unreal mileage, (and I wanted to buy the truck). he had "smaller" tires on the truck, and didnt' even know that would throw off is indicator. Of course I then said no thanx,.
At my age, I am a believer that "if it sounds too good to be true,..it is.
I am sure if we all unloaded every lilttle thing out of our trucks, includings roof racks, etc., and had them tuned perfuctly, and also went EXACTLY 55mph. on the freeway, we would probably all get about 23 mpg.
And I have no idea why my '92 318 is officially rated at 18 mpg @ 55mph on freeway, and mine has always done much better than that.
55 aint in the cards for me. My brother told me he was getting 22 or 24 or something lin his "around town", so I offered to buy it if the numbers held up.
No dickering on price or anything. When he decided to sell....he sold it to someone else without even telling me.
Go to L.A., and drive to SLC, Utah,, and you should not have to fill up if you really get that kind of economy.. With one 35 gqallon tank.

No, I do not keep a fuel log, have never really even thought about it. As for the secret? I can't say there is a "secret". As I noted in my first post in this thread, I got MUCH better fuel mileage once I replaced the VP and installed the FASS. My mileage went way up. Also, with the 4.10s, I NEVER go over 65 mph because the motor is just spinning too fast. This is all hand calc'd with the correction for running larger tires. Right now I am running 235/85-16s as opposed to the tires that came stock on the truck that were 245/75-16s. I also run them at full pressure all the way around (80psi). I just got back from a 1000 mile trip from Powell, WY to Boise, ID and back. Went through Yellowstone park and out through Montana into ID. If any of you are familiar with that route, then you know it is up and down through the mountains most of the way. I averaged almost 23 mpg on that trip both ways. I do not "Hot Rod" my truck, I always use cruise control, and I try to keep my EGTs and boost way down while I am driving. Maybe I am just much more conservative in the way I drive, I don't know. I also use premium diesel in my truck and add 1/2 quart of ATF in every fill up. This is a trick that my stepfather taught me who is a retired diesel mechanic. He says the ATF helps to lubricate the motor and keep it cleaner.
That's the truth guys, honest.
