Fuel Mileage?
I get above 20 everywhere unloaded. In town, 20-21. On the highway, 24-25. The Edge and Injectors contribute to this as well as just having replaced my VP44 and putting on a FASS. Before the new VP, i was averaging about 19-20. By far, the biggest increase was after replacing the VP. And until it actually started acting up, it never showed any symtpoms either
, but obviously it was not operating to its maximum effiency either. O yeah, that is with 4.11's and keeping it right at 65.

Fuel Mileage
See my Sig. Trip taken this month. 414 miles and fuled up. Comp said 19.9. Hand figured 19 even. That is 70mph w/ air on. Towing 5th wheel 9000lbs, about, hand figured 13.7 All mileage on the flat no wind. I have gotten 18 - 21 on a trip to Az. That was w/bed cover, not towing. Blieve it, or not.
I own a diesel dodge and a gas dodge. SO I have something to say.
1992 gasser 1/2 ton w/a 318 magnum.
1998 24v diesel 2500 quad.
Both are auto.
In most cases. The gas truck is cheaper to drive. (By the way, you guys with the overhead computers,...I figure out my mileage by hand with a calculator, that way it doesn't lie.
On freeway.
If I can keep it at 60 mph, the diesel gets 20 to 21 mpg and the gas gets 22 or so.
If I go 70 or 75, the diesel goes down, to about 17 mpg, the gas only goes down to 19 mpg (even if I stay close to 80 mph).
If I have a load of lumber, tools, etc., (I mean a few thousand pounds.).
Then the diesel does a better job of it, and also has better power. And will get a little better mileage under a heavy load. I.E...the worst the diesel get's in town loaded is a little under 13. I think the gas gets a little under 12 under the same conditions., But, generally, with a mild load in town, they both are darn near equivalent. So if gas is cheaper, then I guess the gas one is cheaper.
Anyway, just my 2 cents worth here. Also, I've had less trouble with my gas truck than with my diesel.
I will probably keep my diesel (or trade it for a 5 speed diesel so I can tow my dad's back hoe) because I don't believe the engine will ever wear out. I think that soooner or later, the 318 will probably wear out. Although I don't see any signs of it at all at this point.

Geez Puke...
I'm going to have to sit down with you and pick you brain...
My Truck: 2002 Dodge 24 Valve Diesel (360 CID/5.9L) 3.55 Gears #6,800
Mom's Truck: 1996 Dodge Magnum V8 (360 CID/5.9L) 3.55 Gears #5,500
My Motorhome: 1976 Dodge Jamboree (360 CID/5.9L) 4.88? Gears #8,200
My Truck Currenlty: 17.58 MPG Average (Max: 22.92 Min: 14.10)
Mom's Truck: 13.13 MPG Average (Max: 16.16 Min: 10.12)
Motorhome: (Last known) 10-11 MPG
My graph (diesel) is posted here at the begin of this thread...
Now I would like to know how you got such great numbers with both the gasser and the diesel. As you can see I've got 3 - 360 CID/5.9L engines with weights. Now whats you secret puke???

All the trucks have had 3.55 gears, and the to diesels both had the 5spd.
By the way, on my post I didnt' mention that I also had an old 360 one ton.
B8ut the mpg is beyond bad. It has the 360. I've never heard of a 360 that got that good of fuel economy. So I'm thinking that if you have a 360 you are never going to see 20 miles per gallon...or at least rarely. Mine tops at about 12....unloaded and going 55. But it yhas a 12 foot box on it.

Yea Right! I have a 99 CTD and it gets 23.3- 24.2 on the road @2,000 and just yesterday I filled up and averaged 23.12 combination driving(18-1900) and yes it has 4:10 gears/5 spd. And weighs 6,760 with me in it. The above mileage was from Prescott,AZ to Glennie,MI with cruise, air on max most of the time.
The secret to fuel mileage lies in your right foot.

Hey bud, believe whatever you want to believe. I have no reason to post untruths, I know what mileage I get, and was posting the results. Don't flame on me because you don't get the same mileage that I do. Your "yea right" comment tends to make me think that you insinuate that I am lying. I don't appreciate that in any manner whatsoever. If you don't believe me, that's on you, but don't flame on me when I am just posting in a friendly manner.
I got to admit that 22+ MPG is hard to swallow. I would love to hear your secrets on how you did it...
25 MPG * 35 Gallon Tank = 875 Miles
24 MPG * 35 Gallon Tank = 840 Miles
So... You getting roughly 840 - 875 Miles to a tank...
17.58 MPG * 35 Gallon Tank = 615.3 Miles
As for me I'm getting 615 miles per tank on average...
Now have you be keep a full fuel log or are you just calculating per fill? I've keep a notebook with every fill from 23K on the clock to current.
Now I can give you my stats...
Maximum MPG = 22.92 (Done only once!)
Minimum MPG = 14.10
Average MPG = 17.58
Cost Per Mile Average = $0.21
I'm willing to post my Excel Spread sheet to anyone who what a copy or verify my numbers... I've got nothing to hide...
Go back to HERE for my table of MPG...

Its taken me 2 years to find the right setting on my comp box that works right 4-1
