Aftermarket high idlers can be turned on whenever and wherever usually.

1200 isn't enough.. (Not that I'm anyone to talk, my truck piled up cause I was neglegent) but last year, I put it at 1450 to 1500 or so, heater on middle and low fan, mind you it was coooooolld -40 or so... When sitting at the lights I put the park brake on and the 3cyl idle would kick in immedialty,,,,

My powersmoke would only kick in fast idle when the temp was below 30 degrees or so.
Thanks for the info.
The idle control via cruise control doesn't work out of the box.
You have to have a dealer enable it by changeing the software in the truck, which is a quick routine operation for most of them.
Read this TSB link, print it out and bring it to the dealer. It took my dealer about 10 minutes to enable it in my truck.
Here it is:

It's definitaly worth it, it's a great feature.

OK, I took mine in for routine service, oil change , tire rotation etc... gave them the printed of TSB for the high idle.
When I picked it up they said they didn't do it because the Core temp was 125 or greater therefore not warranting the update.
I didn't ***** much for 2 reasons:
1. I was in a hurry and didn't have time
2. I didn't read the TSB real close prior to taking it in, all I knew was I needed the update.
Now I have read it close and it indicates the update is my (the customer's ) decision to have it done. Before I go make a fool of myself am I correct or not?
Thanks in advance.

Not sure.
They did mine with no questions asked because my truck was only 4 months old and they probably didn't want to upset a new customer.
You can complain about one or more of the symptoms on the TSB, even if the complaint may not be legit, and they should do it no problem.
If they still don't want to do it tell them you know it's a quick operation and you'd be pi$$ed off if they don't, and if they still refuse, take it to a different dealer.
That's what I'd do anyway.

my 02 does not have the cold idle enabled. i have been going with the stick in the seat method, but one problem with BOTH of these...... I CANT USE THEM WITH MY REMOTE START!!!
for some reason when i use my remote starter with the stick it just shuts the truck down. why is that? either way it seems i have to get cold

Just got my high idle enabled (finally) and it works with the remote starter, as the go pedal isn't moving, just the idle speed is.

I have had the TSB done on my 00BR and it works GREAT! 2 degrees today and truck was warm after 20min of 3cylinder idling. It is a challenge to get used to the increased noise level. Only one trip to the dealer, with the help of this site and a printout of the TSB for the writer and the tech. Paid 1 hour of time, well worth it. Thanks!
