e brake ?

Tonight on the way home I was screwing around. Ran the truck pretty hard pulling out into traffic. Spun the tires through 2nd and 3rd. When I looked down at the dash I noticed the e brake light was on. The truck ran fine. This is the second or third time it has done this. Am I messing with the anti lock brakes or what? The light stayed on till I pressed on the service brake. Any ideas?

Check the rear wheel speed sensor, to start.

Most likely the light is just from spinning the tires.
You probably have a P0500 code present (vehicle speed sensor) as well.

It is telling you that there was a discrepency between the 3 antilock sensors.
(one on the rear axle, one each on the front tires)

Pushing the brake pedal basically reset the system, light went out because the symptom wasn't there anymore.

Thanks guys, I have been reading this site for a couple years now and have not seen this before. I guess I broke the cardinal rule and assumed that with all the bombed trucks on here I would have seen this before. Do I need to worry about the P0500 code?

No, if it is there it will go away on it's own if don't spin the tires for a while.

If the e-brake cable is out of adjustment...it will also light the bulb. I used to have to pop my release several times until I adjusted (tightened) the cable.

Rattletrap1, how did you tighten your e-brake cable? Mine does'nt hold very well when I have a heavy load in the truck.
Thanks !

I just tightened the turnbuckle on the cable. The e-brakes on the discs sucks. It's just a small drum within the hub so there's hardly any surface area and no diameter to speak of. I won't trust mine at say the launch ramp. Stop it in gear or wheel chock.

Rattletrap1, I am with you on not trusting the emerg. brake. I kill the motor and leave it in gear on ramps. Then I get out and chock the tires. In the last five years I have watched three vehicles turn into submarines at San Luis, but not CTD's.
