It died on me!
It died on me!
It seemed to start surging every time I'd get down to about an 1/8 tank. Got there on my way home from work and around the corner from the house...poof no rpms...no start.
Is it possible the fuel gauge is wrong....or the dreaded....vp death?
Thanks for any help.

seems most likely that your fuel guage is off - the sending unit in the tank can and does go bad - take it from me
. Meanwhile, I've installed an analog fuel pressure gauge as good measure especially with diesel - not good to starve the injector pump in that the fuel itself provides cooling to the injector pumps mechanical operation. the tank unit is about $70, but dropping the tank - now that is something I don't know how to do.

Definetly a bad gauge, I have been having the same dang problem First an 1/8 then 1/4. I hadn't drove mine for a month due to the transmission going out, got my new tranny and didn't remember for sure what it had in the tank but the gauge said 1/2 and it ran out on me AGAIN....I have got to do something about mine for sure...
if you run less than 1/4 ,you're asking for trouble

I've got friends that run their stuff down to miles til empty using that contraption on the overhead console. I get down around 1/4 I realize I'm gonna have to fill it up anyhow, might as well be now. At least it won't look so bad $$ on the pump.
Besides, running it down low is that not where all the good stuff hangs out, water, trash etc, etc????

I had to replace my sending unit. Not a fun job on a rusted 9 year old truck. Took about 4 hours with the 2 of us (hmmm... there was some rye involved though). The inside of the tank was REALLY clean and no junk in the bottom. Keep in mind, if your sending unit is off, so is your miles to empty. When I dropped the tank, it said I had just under 3/4 of a tank and could go another 400 km, when I put it back on and replaced the fuel that came out, it said 1/8th and 122 km to empty.
When putting in the new seal, make sure it goes past the second lip or the lid will cross thread. Knowing that could have saved me an hour.
