Dealerships and High Idle Function

Have a quick question, does anyone know a dealer in North Iowa that knows (and I mean actually knows) what they are talking about when it comes to Dodge Cummins trucks. I went to my local dealer today, Ebert's in Charles City, to get the high idle enabled in my truck, they tried to tell me that it didn't even exist until 3rd gen trucks. After ten minutes of arguing with the head technician I walked out. There has to be a dealership around that can help me out. Thanks.

High Idle

Mine is on a faster Idle all the time. Dodge dealer that works on my truck moved the idle up two yr's. ago. He said they got a TSB from cummins, and they recommended a little faster idle in the winter, and that was to keep the oil up at a warmer temperature, so the valve guides would'nt get gumbed up. waam Holland, Mich.

I tried out a smarty, and low and behold the first time it got below 20deg the high idle kicked on. and then when it got to 0 degrees it went to 3 cyl idle.

So the smarty gives you three cylinder high idle and regular high idle?

Yes. All softwares that Smarty has include high idle and 3 cylinder high idle.

So for the original poster... if you want to skip dealerships all together, find someone local with a Smarty, load in a software, then load in the stock software and you'll have high idle enabled.

I don't think you can get the "HI Idle" enable that is set with the cruise control when it is cold. But the dealer should be able to put in the "3 cylinder enable."
It is TSB18-019-1. When it is cold it will run on 3 cylinders for faster warm up.

Had 01 done at local dealer and it has both high idle and higher 3 cyl idle, works great, all you do is start truck and walk away. no cruise to push or anything.

im getting ready to setup my own high idle, from the flip of a switch in the cab ill be able to idle it up to any rpm (under 1550) that i desire....i was looking into having the dealer enable it, but you wont be able to turn it on when you want, so for the $20 sum dollars worth of parts and wiring, im going to go this route.
