Does $50 seem right for the dealer to enable this function? Seems a little high to me.

 

Are you talking about your 06? It is a TSB, and they will do it for free.

 

Yea, its my 06, do you know the TSB #, I am at the dealer now and they said it was just a preferance thing and it would cost me 1/2 hour labor to do the flash. They are doing the hard start reflash for free.

 

I searched around and finally got it done for free at one dealer, but that may be because I was getting other work done (headlight angle adjusted) but that was only 25 bucks...

The TSB is for an 04, sorry to mislead you. The TSB number is 18-004-04, but it should come standard on an 06. If you have another dealer around, you might try them. See if you can find the tech, maybe he'll help you out. I thought that the high idle feature was standard on the 06's? Make sure that you are doing it right, cruise on, hold the ste button down, it should jump to 1100 rpm's. Tell them that the truck is not warming up. ??? Sorry I'm not more help.

 

The dealer wants $76 to do it on my '04... called DC and they said the same, that it was a preference thing and not covered under warranty.

I got mine done for $35.00 and they also turned on my DRL and 10 minute power on with key off. So yes it is to much for 10 minutes of work!

They shouldnt charge you for any of that.
Id go to another dealership.

High idle/cruise control feature came from the factory on lots of trucks in the northern states, and most dealerships just turn it on for you, no charge.
I wouldnt pay a dime to have them turn on something they should have from the factory(whether you need it or not, why disable the function? )

 

well the service manager gave me some BS excuse that the TSB was only for the 04. Whatever, you know,Its reasons like this that I dont use the dealer for anything but warranty. On the up side I got a free oil change with some coupon that they sent me, they were probebly trying to recoup those costs. I also got a new pass side miror, the other one was viberating on the hiway. I had a few other minor things looked at , and the hard start TSB done. It ended up costing me 40 bucks to turn on the high Idle, The service writer looked like he was going to crap hs pants when I started reciting TSB #s and told him how to enable the high idle, this is after he told me it was a half hour prociduer and it was not as simple as turning on a switch. This is probebly why he charged me $40 not $50 like he originaly said. I still think it should have been free but it works good, and I wont go back to that dealer, there loss.

I agree this isn't something you should have to pay for, but unfortunately they are the ones with the tool that can do the job. The first one cost me $40 to get enabled. On my 2006 the service manager did it himself for free.

I think part of the reason why they charge is if the shop runs a "flat rate" pay system, the tech who does the work doesn't get paid that time unless it is billed out on a work order. I was told you can't charge time for a 2004 TSB to a newer model year. Can't blame the tech for not wanting to work for free.

My Dealers Dont Charge Anything, If You Bought The Truck From Them. But It Is In Fact Customer Preference, And Customer Pay Without Warranty Labor Op.

 

I believe in the states in the owner’s manual that it can be charged to warranty work
