Need help with high idle function

I dont have cruise and I would like to enable high idle on my truck. There has to be some way for me to do this. On my '04 sick.0 I simply put a switch between two wires under the dash and it automatically went to 1250 rpm's. I know somebody out here with more smarts than me can tell me how to do this. . I would appreciate any help. TIA

Do you have power seats? The only thing that I can think of is to get a dowell rod from wal-mart or something, cut it to length, and put it against your pedal and seat, advance the seat foward until you get the acheived Idle. Or, go to a truck stop and get an aftermarker one, the one that hooks to the throttle linkage and is mounted on threads. Gotta do some drilling for that one, though.

I tried that with a dowel rod and an adjustable curtain rod thingy, but it kept sliding off and I couldnt get the rpm's finely adjusted. While I was doing this I was thinking, man there has to be a better way!!!!

Anybody else have any ideas as to maybe some way to wire this up without butchering anything... Im sorry to be beating this subject to death, but I cant believe that there is no way for those w/o cruise to get the high idle feature.

Dad says it was a throttle ****, available most places that sell semi parts. Not too much work, just have to make a mount for it. I know that you want to be able to do it electronically, but I don't know what to say...

Sorry I'm worthless!!!

Madhat, I appreciate your responses and by no means meant any disrespect. Its just that on my previous truck I used the high idle ALL the time and now that I dont have it on my new truck, it just feels naked. I wish that I would have known about this issue prior to purchasing a truck, then I would have gotten cruise....

Anybody have a fix for me???

There we go, now I'm going in the right direction....I have spent the past hour or so searching the internet for these high idle controllers for my truck. The cheapest I 've found was between $400-$500. Has anybody found them any cheaper?

Yup, no cruise...wish I had known. I even checked on Ebay, nothing. There is one for chevy for $21...

Oh well, I dont have $400 just to elevate my idle, so I guess I'll go out and see if I can get the adjustable shower rod thing to work for me.

Thanks everyone.

Are you old enough to remember manual chokes? The bracket clipped under the edge of the dash and the cable went through the firewall to the throttle. just a thought.

That would work fantastic....if the trucks werent "fly-by-wire". No cables on the newer trucks - all electronic.

Buy the cruise buttons from dealer, ground the PTO pin on the ECU B connector (if your lucky and it is the same as the earlier trucks), have the dealer enable the buit-in high idle. The wiring is already there you just need the buttons. It ain't gonna get any easier and probably cheaper depending on how good a deal you can make with the parts guy.
