Dead Tranny?

I installed a triple disc torque converter, flex plate, and valvebody with apply lever kit all about 1500 miles ago. This morning drove the truck and it ran normally. Took it really easy as we got a dump of snow last night. Tonight got in my truck and now it won't shift from first. It will shift once you get going fast enough and let off on the throttle. When shifting manually, from D to 2 it just revs. I think I lost second gear. Everything else seems ok. Is there any possible problem with my tranny that won't need a full rebuild. Thanks.

The clutches are another weak point in the 47re. You might have one slipping. Did you do your trans your self or did you have it done if so is it under warranty? You might have to open it up.

I was going to rebuild it when I had it out but I could only get my wallet open enough to get the converter and valvebody. Seems odd that it would hapen so suddenly. I didn't notice it slip at all before this.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
If it goes ahead and shifts into overdrive after get up speed and let off it may be second gear. The KD lever you mention will bend a standard link, especially after firming up shift operation with HD valve body. Drop oil pan and lookey/see/maybe fixee.

With the new TC and VB the stresses put on the rest of your trans has increased allot due to the fact that they are so much more efficient . The weakest point of your trans is the clutches. Thus my guess that it is your clutches that have the problem.

drop the pan and valve body, look at the strut to see if it is bent or fell out or the band is broken. the clutch's HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH 2ND GEAR except the rear or forward clutch. as it goes forward it is NOT that clutch either. as to a converter and valve body adding stress to a trany that is also WRONG! the band apply strut is a known weak part. any one that builds these things for a living when using a high ratio lever and added line pressure will replace the the strut with an aftermarket stronger one.

I got a kit with my valve body that included a higher ratio lever, billet band strut, and anchor. I also put in a heavy duty band and a Sonnax billet front servo cover. The more I think about it the more I'm leaning towards an electrical or hydraulic problem and not mechanical. Although stranger things have happend, I can't see the band or strut and anchor falling apart. I've been working the past couple of days. Tomarrow I will try adjusting the band and see if it will tighten up. If it doesn't then I guess the pan will be coming off.

YES there is. Replace the shift solenoid under the valve body. It sticks and won't shift to second when it should. About an extra $100 when changing fluid.
