Sounds like the dealer isnt giving you much of an option. If Cummins says that the pump is shot then the dealer doesnt have much to stand on aside from the fact that thier computer doesnt always tell them everything like they wish it would. Good Luck youll get it hammered out.

I agree, tell the dealer that once you fianlly make them change the pump that they will never gt any business from you, that is bull. Tell them that you have been very patient with them but you would like a truck that runs right. The heck with just shaking the bush, burn it down. Tell them that you want a loaner to drive and it better be a 4x4 diesel, give them what they have coming.

i am convinced that the dealers hands are tied . they have to get approval to change these pumps and they can't get the approval. I don't think the problem is here at my local level I think it is higher up, but it seems like the dealership is the one who should be doing the fighting to get it done , not the customer.

Blue Chip vs Edge

We have installed both and liked both. Blue Chip has 2 boxes: APB (Adjustable Power Box) and FMS (Fuel Management System). Correct me if i am wrong, but the APB box is fueling only and the FMS box is Fueling and Timing (They have an option to adjust timing if i remember correctly)FMS DEMO.

I am assuming they were talking about the APB since the FMS is a serious BOX! The APB box is great. Explosive power when turned up and its on a rheostat rather then a switch. Infinite in cab adjustments. BUT install is a little more complicated than the Edge. AND gauges, exhaust, and intake of sorts, would almost be a must with the load you are pulling to keep the truck from getting hot. Like mentioned, you have to pierce the pump wire and a ground wire in the pump harness. This can be fun if you get a bad connection. I HATE SCOTCH LOCKS!! I would suggest the replacement pump cover over the scotch lock any day. Blue Chips makes one and it doesn’t show signs of a wire being pierced unless they take the pump cover off. The one we installed we had to go back and mess with to get good connections because the cust was too cheep to get the pump cover. But we got it working fine. Also the APB is cheaper than the Edge EZ module.

The Edge EZ has been one of my faves. Good moderate power that comes on very noticeable. Not as explosive as the APB but it will keep your EGT's in check better. (Still run some sort of a gauge) It is very easy to install and it has 3 adjustable levels to choose from. Better mileage is also to be gotten from it. You don’t have to pierce the wire like the other box, so its easer to hide from Dodge. It will set you back a little more than the APB but its not bad.

You want to get stupid power, stack em! They will work together and HOLY CRAP! Talk about pull, smoke, and speeding tickets! BUT for pulling.....wouldn’t suggest it! You would be spraying tranny parts in a 5 mile radius with that load (or frying the clutch)!

But its up to you. If you want to control the power in cab? APB. Want good pull with out excessive EGT's (Or worrying about them as much), or easy install? Go EZ. Want a hot rod that will hang with Mustangs? Stack em!

Hope i could help........

i elected to go with, should be here today, the ez edge. am still battleing with dodge trying to get this truck running the way it should without the add-ons so best any add-ons i use need to be quickly removable as the truck goes to the dealer as often as it goes to fuel stops.

herb: I'd say that you should NOT connect the Edge EZ to the truck before your problem is remedied. If you have to go to DC to get this problem remedied they can dig deep enough into the 'puter to see that it has been there. So this could just be the thing they need to squirm out of their obligation. (I know about Magnussen-Moss etc, but I feel it would be much easier without having to prove that the box went on later and did not do any more damage etc)

Just my 2c

Last week, I was second in line at the Dodge dealer's service writer desk. The customer in front of me was asking the service writer what would be the results if he installed an Edge chip. The first words out of the service writer's mouth was, "Dodge will cancel your warranty, we will put it in the DC computer and all other dealers will have access to it. Even if you take it off, it leaves trails that we can find." FWIW

thanks for the advise. it is a shame i even have to consider putting one on this truck. I do not want to put it on there for speed all i want to do is make the thing do what it should be doing without one.

I don't think just putting an EZ on your truck is going to net much of anything if the VP-44 is bad and not working properly. The injection pump HAS to be fixed in order for that truck to do what it's supposed to do. Giving an "energy drink" to an athelete with a broken leg isn't going to make him run any faster..... you have to fix the leg first.

Hey Herb, Just been reading your threads over the last while. I don't understand by pulling your setup that you are experiencing so many power problems. I have a 2002 24V 6Spd CTD S/B Lamarie. I pull a 28.5' Fifth Wheel Trailer with a 17' fishing boat behind it and I've never ,ever had concerns or problems with power. My last truck was a 1998 12V CTDAuto. and I pulled the same units with no problems at all. Something is wrong somewhere and I think all these power mods are just gonna bandaid it . Just my 2 cents worth. By the way both of my trucks where stock with the exception of air filters. My friend is the local Cummins service manager he put it in these words. The engines that Dodge is puttting in these 3/4 Trucks is the same engine they are putting in the 5 Ton Delivery Trucks so you figure it out.

But has different cam or cam timing.... Pulls much stronger with the commercial cam, like lower rpm's
