Cost of Today's Oil/Oil Filter Change

Well I changed the oil and oil filter today. Im just wondering what it costs some of you other guys and ladies for each oil change.

I used Rotella T 5w40 syn blend at $16.24 per gallon from walmart. Dividing that into quarts it is $4.06 per quart. I used a Genos Stratopore filter for $9.50. So with 11 quarts used my total for synthetic oil and a quality filter only costed me $54.16 I had all the neccessary tools for the job and also went out and bought a creeper to make things easier but dont count that in the costs because I can use that thing for years and years for all kinds of other jobs

$10.57/gal for Chevron Delo from walmart plus $9.95 for stratapore from Genos-- So $29.06 for oil + 9.95 so $39 + taxes and shipping.

You Could Always Bring It To My Local Dealer (5 Star) 50 Bucks.
Was A Good Deal Until Figured Out They Didn't Actually Change The Oil & Filter.

$10.95 a gallon for whichever 15W-40 is on sale. Commonly it's Valvoline, Shell Rotella, and Chevron's Delo. Any one of these 3 is fine and they're about the only 15W-40 in plastic gallon jugs on the shelf anyway.
$8.95 for the oil filter, which is a Bladwin or the one from Cummins.
About $42 PLUS WA state sales tax of 9% and a $50 bill goes in with a gurgle.....and if you're lucky, you'll have enough for a Big Mac left over.

$52.24 at Sam's for a case of 6 gallons of Rotella T 15W40
$18.78 for 2 Napa Gold oil filters
=$71.02 for TWO oil changes. $35.51 each. Sales tax will add a buck or two.

$4.06 a Qt. is a great price for synthetic oil in any of the 50 states...IMO.

I did see lots of blowby under the truck when I was under there. Anybody know a good way to get that cleaned off? high pressure Steam cleaner or something?

My local service station bought a wrecked trailer truck load of oil and I bought a bunch of that for 6.50 a gallon. And I get my Wix filters at a discount due to the wifey working for Oreilly's Corp. HR office. So I guess I pay around $25.00.

When I bought my truck the dealer offered a program for $460. 4 oil changes per year for as long as you own your truck. Well that was from April of 02 and I think it has more than paid for its self. Several times they have done the so called recalls with out me asking for them.

When I bought my first gen 93 CTD, I was offered a lifetime oil change for about $360. They gave you 4 changes per year. I had the truck for 14 years and ALWAYS took advantage of the 4 changes per year. The last couple of years whenever I'd go in there, one of the salesman and I got to talking when I mentioned the lifetime changes. Of course he was smiling when he accused me of "trying to pay for my truck in reverse by keeping it so long and making them change the oil ALL THESE YEARS....." Funny, I hadn't thought of it like that....

I was offered one of those lifetime oil change deals too when I bought this thing used but with the low amount of miles I drive(7500 or less per year and change oil once a year) I calculated that in order for me to have this offer pay for itself that I would have to keep the truck for about 8 years and I only plan on having it for a maximum of 5. Plus this was the same dealership that couldnt even program a keyless remote for 15 minutes that took me 30 seconds to do at home. Not exactly the kind of people that I want fiddling with my truck
