Codes P-1693 and P-0177

My odometer is showing the codes P-1693 and P-0177. The truck runs fine except that for the last while I noticed that the engine rpm fluctuates or runs a little rough at lite throttle, like when coasting and then lightly pressing the accelartor. The water in fuel light come on the other day and the went back off. I think thats what the 0177 is. Any input on the 1693?

1693 is a companion code. Meaning that there is a code inside the computer that can be accessed with a code reader. Go to an auto zone or an advance, if you have those, and they will pull it for free. Im not very familiar with the electronics but my understanding is that there are two different computers or modules or whatever and only one displays codes in the odometer. The other one can only bee seen with a reader. But if the other one has a code, it will dispaly the 1693 in the computer which displays in the odometer. Making it a companion code. This may be completely wrong but thats just my gues on how it works.

Straight6, it simply means there is a code stored in the ECM mounted on the engine.

You have to be able to read the ECM.

I never did figure out for sure what it was. It had 6 or 8 code for a while and the gauges would suddenly quit working. The truck still run fine so i just kept driving it. Just checked the codes the other day and they were all gone, everything seems normal.
