Codes 1682 and 1693

Looks like charging system voltage too low, which could have occured when my water pump locked up, the belt came off, therefore make the alternator gauage going to zero. As far as 1693 what is DTC detected in ECM or PCM?????????????What does that mean.

Companion code.

Shows up in either the ECM or PCM saying there is a code in the other module.

Result of having two computers that don't communicate well with each other.

Gasser's only have the PCM, but us lucky Cummins owners get the ECM in addition to the PCM.

Not necessarily.

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

I guess some codes are recognized by both modules, so the code isn't needed.
