hey my truck is dead in my friends driveway. it wont run at all it just sputters and dies. the truck worked fine when i pulled in and 10 min later after i get a load and start the truck to leave i get the engine light. at first it would start harder than normal and just not rev above 1200 rpm but would idle like normal so i shut it off to check some stuff and go to restart and it wont even idle. also it has an edge ez on it if that makes a difference. after doing some digging i know it has to do with the VP but does this mean its toast?

Sorry pal, the P1688 is generally a "Death Code" for the injector pump.

P1688 Internal Fuel Injection Pump Controller Failure.
Internal problem within the fuel injection pump. Low power, engine derated, or engine stops.

P1689 No Communication Between ECM and Injection Pump Module.
Data link circuit failure between ECM and fuel injection pump. Low power, engine derated, or engine stops.
