Click during Startup

I'm in North Florida....and over the last few weeks for 3 or 4 mornings that have been
sub 40 degrees...I have experienced the following:

Turn the Key...Cycle...Turn the Key...Click.

Turn off....

Turn the Key...Cycle...Turn the Key...Starts Up...

Doesn't happen during the day or on mornings when the temperature is > 40 degrees.

Any thoughts...???

I think it might be the battery.

My first guess is that your starter solenoid contacts are shot. Next time you start up turn your headlights on first and have someone watch them while you turn the key. If they die then maybe you have bad batteries as well but the fact that it does start with no problems once it 'takes' goes back to the solenoid contacts. If they are the original contacts then they probably need changing anyway and updated to the better kind. Also check for corroded battery terminals.

Well...

I've already checked that battery posts are clean and both my batteries were purchased within the last 18 months or so....and they are both overkill on the cranking amps...

So...sounds like my contacts...

Thanks for the comments.

When I got my truck I had to have to towed in by the dealer about a week after I got it. Come to find out the factory did not tighten the nut holding the wire on the starter. I would start at the batteries and clean & tighen everything electical.

Starter solinoid would be my next guess.
