Cleaning Turbo Blades
When I took out the slincer ring on my turbo I noticed the blades are a little black and dirty. Is there anything in particular I need to use to clean them or is B-12 (or equivelant carb cleaner) ok? Thanks...I know its a dumb question

Re:Cleaning Turbo Blades
That black residue you see on the impeller blades could be caused by an over oiled K&N filter.
This is what happened to me when I purchased a K&N filter that was over oiled from the factory.
It took me a full day to clean all the black residue off the impeller.
I used Q-Tips, brake cleaner, and rubbing aclohol to get the impeller clean.
(Make sure it has plenty of time to dry out before you fire yup the truck.)
The turbo pulls excess oil off the K&N and that oil sticks to the impeller where any fine dirt that makes it through the filter then stick to the impeller.
Rich.

Not at all uncommon - lotsa STOCK paper air filters out there leaking junk, but THEY don't get much notice or complaint - but let a *K&N* leak anything, and ya never hear the end of it... ;D

I've been running various K&N's on a wide variety of vehicles for many years and tens of thousands of miles, never had the slightest indication of dirt OR oil contamination in my intakes - and oil analysis has always been excellent... ;D ;D

Just a word of warning guys. Be very carefull while cleaning the blades because there is on some a white material which is used to balance the blades...you do not want to remove this material.

By the way I have run a K&N filter since the truck was new and I have never had any oil on my turbo blades ;D

Re:Cleaning Turbo Blades
You will see it on the turbo blade/blades when looking at the intake side. Not all of the blades will have it just the ones that required some weight.

It kinda looks like road grim but is white and a little rough if you rub your finger on it. It is usaully on the outer end of the blades. Again NOT all will have it.

Re:Cleaning Turbo Blades
I also had some black deposits on my turbo blades when I installed my K&N drop in filter. I just used a damp cloth to wipe mine off. I have not seen anything on my blades during the last year after I put the K&N on. I ran across a good deal on a BHAF and holder along with a Mag-Hytec rear-end cover, they should be in this week, so I will see if the BHAF makes any diference.

Bill
