Angry Chipped turbo blades

Been a member here a while just enjoy reading and learning. So I recently got off of my duff and added DiPricol tri gauges, Wix BHAF, 4" Straight Exhaust, #10 Plate and I have a set of 4000 GSK (installing as 3000 RPM).

So today I was making my heat sheild and had to pull the filter and the intake tube..... I noticed the intake impellar looked funny, I looked alittle closer and it looks like someone tossed a handfull of rocks into the intake. I still aint real sure where the debris came from either?

http://photos.yahoo.com/hathcockm (cut and paste)

As of last night there is no vibration that I can tell, heck had I not pulled the intake tube I never would have known it. So do I run it or do I start looking for a new air pump??

Stock Boost 21lbs
Boost w/mods 36lbs (before EGT's got too high)

@ 70mph easeing into throttle EGT's will climb to 1250+ with boost climbing to 36+. Don't wanna take it any further.

I pulled my intake hose and saw a chipped wheel on my turbo, then I pulled the cold pipe and found the second turbo had a chipped wheel also, due to sucking the hose into the intake and the wire in the hose contacting the first turbo wheel, and the debris from that going into the second turbo. BOTH my turbos immediately went to HTT Turbo for repair. You could take a chance, but I wouldn't.

I was not able to access that web site to see your pics.

That's more than just balancing chips taken out.
It also looks, judging by the picture, that the blades have been contacting the sides of the housing.

Not a turbo expert by any means, but it's definitely time for either a rebuild or a new turbo.

I have checked the shaft for runout, there isn't any. The nicks you see in the housing are just that nicks that you can barely feel with your fingernail.

So, anybody have any recomendations on a decent shop to get a HX35W rebuilt at?

My mechanic recommended HTT, so that's where mine went. 801-304-0700. Talk to Paul. He may also be able to upgrade it or turn it into a hybrid to help you get more air, if you need it. Mine are being repaired and upgraded.

HTT is in Utah. Repair and upgrade of my HX35 was about 200.00, + shipping back to me. I did not have any bearings or seals that needed to be replaced with 100K on that turbo. I guess the cool-down time every time I park it, works.

I would still be a little concerned over what caused it??? Maybe check inside your intercooler, manifold, or the related tubing.

Time to play detective to find out the cause, regardless of what you do next. Kevin

The last thing you want to do is put a new turbo in there and have the same thing happen to it.

Did you buy it used, and this is the first time you've looked at the blades?
Previous owner disconnect the airbox for a few offroad drag races?

I was in a similar situation,

Don`t know why it was hashed, but it did have 176K on it. It turned out to be the "perfect" time to upgrade, lol.

Well I couldn't stand it last night I took all the plumbing off and the cooler looking for the culpret. The SOB that scuffed my blades.
I didn't find anything, not even a mark on the inside of any of the other plumbing. So where did it all go from the turbo? Did it get chewed up that small?

I ain't gotta clue what, when or what did it............
