Check gauges light

My check gauges light came on while driving tonight and my volt gauge was on the low end on the "safe" zone. I just replaced the one battery(drivers side) because it was boiling and very hot. and the volt meter would fluctuate alot. What do you think is causing this? PCM going bad, bad grounds? Thanks ahead of time.

On my '98 12v, when the check auges lite started coming on, it was time to replace the batteries. That ended the lite problem.

did they load test them when they were unhooked or were they still tied together?

Chec the alternator, same thing happend to me and the voltage regulator failed. Just an overcharging alternator or a shorted battery causes the battery to boil and get hot.
