i had thought about that, seems to me that the most effective side would be the pass side, i think that is the direction that most of the g/o is thrown. but put the cooler or filter there?

I have the filter on the passenger's side - as per Geno's instructions - and one of the coolers on the driver's side. It clears the driveshaft on my 4x4 with no problem. The other cooler I mounted on the PTO plate to the transfer case - so I have a bit less than a quart extra fluid capacity in that unit, along with some small amount of cooling.

Boy, I don't recall a 17 mm hex anywhere on my NV5600? I just changes the fluid in mine for the second time. Just remove the bottom bolt on the drivers side PTO cover and drain. Replace bolt and fill through top bolt. Bolts are 15mm if memory serves. I jacked the drivers side up so I could over fill it. I believe its 4 qts std and 5 to overfill. Get that bolt in there quickly so you don't lose any. This is of course if you don't want to remove the PTO cover and clean the magnet. Fluid has been sqeaky clean every time I've changed it. I used Amsoil the first change but I didn't like how it shifted. I ran it 10k miles or so and replaced with Redline synthetic MTL which shifts much better so far.

Still wonder on the 17mm hex and the only thing I can think of is the transfer case?
