Buying an 02 and have ??? about the V44
I found an 02 4x4 QC with 47,000 miles on it and it is excellant condition. The truck has never pulled anything(i.e. GN, 5th wheel, the reciever hitch does not look like it has been used). I can get this truck for under $20,000. This is in my price range. A comparable 03-04 is about $8,000 to $12,000 more money. The truck is stock and I will have it checked by a Dodge dealer before buying. I am new to the diesel truck world. This truck will be used to pull my Jeep to and from the trails.
The question on the VP44 and the LP going bad is this do to mods on the engine and fuel system trying to keep? Is it that they just go bad with mods? Is this something that I need worried about everytime I look at a truck? I understand that if the LP goes out it takes the VP44 out also if you do not fix the LP. Is this correct?
The truck will be left stock. The money goes to the trail rig.

Stock lift pumps fail. period!
Stock VP-44's fail too!
Check the fuel pressure, there is a schrader valve at the VP input for it.
Check codes too.
To do this cycle the key on-off-on-off-on and watch the odometer window. Be prepared to write down any codes-if any. Get back to us.
I'd say the truck is worth this $$$.
I'd also check the front end parts for looseness.

Thanks for the reply. I will have everything checked before I buy the truck. I am in Kuwait and my father is going to look at and take it to a Dodge dealer to have it looked at before buying.
Has anyone used this product "STANADYNE MASTER FILTER/PUMP COMBO!".

Kuwait? If your serving, THANKS! I'm not sure of your location, but I would rather have a "good, reputable" diesel performance shop give it a once over, rather then a dealer. Try what J Fox said, and post any (hopefully none) codes that come up.
Good Luck
Good Luck
Where is the truck at?? Perhaps a gracious member would be willing to give it a once over for you..
47,000 miles and less than $20,000 is a steal if you ask me.
If you purchase said vehicle, I'd plan on having a set of gauges(especially fuel pressure) and one of the many aftermarket solutions for the fuel delivery quandary waiting to be installed ASAP....
