Brand new VP, got dead pedal and codes already..

Alright, so I have just about 4,000 miles on a brand new VP and lift pump, and now I am already having problems. My problems started this friday with the good ole dead pedel. It has never had a problem til then and I haven't had dead pedal since.

So tonight I decided to check for codes just for the heck of it. I end up with the the P0216 and P1688. I know these are the vp death codes but you got to be serious? After only 4,000 miles on a new VP and lift pump? Thats pathetic...

Well I hope the warrenty is still valid even after transfer of ownership...

Eric

Do yuo have a fuel pressure gauge at all??? You might of lost the LP pump and then lost the VP44.... Remember the LP pump could die at anytime...

I would try and use that warranty if you can...

I don't have a fuel pressure gauge yet. I figured with everything being brand new, I would be able to get away without one til I got the money. Guess not.

I did however hook up a guage under the hood and I had 9 psi at idle. But the hose was not long enough to get a reading while drving.

If you have 9 psi at idle, you probably have 2 or 3 psi at speed, and 0 psi close to WOT. And that's what happened - bad LP, bad pressure, and after 4K miles, a bad VP-44.

My truck as i sit now I have 10psi at idle and 6psi cruising and 3-4psi at wot so new lift pump is coming before i wipe the vp out of commission. I use to be the guy who said you don't need a fuel pressure gage but after installing mine and seeing the psi i have i would have done it sooner but glad i did before i ran around any longer with the numbers i have. On the note I agree with every one else money down you had a bad lp and after 4k mile of bad lift pump the vp finally had enough and packed its bags and hit the first horse out of town.

Well, I've got a campaign pump and vulcan kit on the way, hopefully it can still be saved. Filter was changed 3,000 mils ago.

But it just shows ya how crappy these lift pumps really are when you can't even buy a brand new one that works right.

if it was a new from dodge or cummins it should have a 1 year warranty on it, its a royal PITA because it takes them forever to refund you money... Does your VP have a warranty on it? I know when I went through this I made sure to buy one with a 12month unlimited mileage warranty but I lost that when I did the wire tap for the attitude/juice

Well, it was replaced at Haisley's by a different owner and I bought the truck right after the work was done on it.

Black VP with "reman in CZ" stamped on it? also....you turning the key will show "stored" codes. If you use a DRB you will see how many key cycles since the code was set. The code you see may never have been cleared after the last pump was installed.
