airbox thump
#31
GAmiller, I have read in the past that with the stock airbox some folks report a fluttering or thumping while going down the road.....I know this is different from what you report but what they have discovered is the boot between the air box and the inner fender was making all the noise, this is simple but try removing it and see what happens then........wouldnt it be cool if it fixed it?
Good luck, Kevin

Hmm.. I bet it is indeed a harmonic resonance, kinda like the drone you get when you straight pipe the exhaust. If your truck run great, and isn't acting funny, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I have the thump but I only notice it with the hood up. And the few times I have pulled the air filter and air tube off (oil filter change) and ran the truck there is no thump to speak of.

Whitmore - That was the first thing I removed. Then I went w/the BHAF.
J.R. - It may be harmonic resonance, but if it is, the resonance is in the intake horn as well. I know this is a long thread, but I have covered a lot of ground on this in previous posts, and have actually got 2 other opins on the noise.

I have noticed the last couple of weeks, an odd thump sound coming from the airbox on my truck. It sounds like someone knocking on your front door. I opened the airbox while it was running, it got louder. Then I disconnected the airtube at the turbo, noise goes away. It's like the airbox and intake tube to the turbo are acting like an echo chamber. This concerns me because the timing of the thump is about every sixth pop of the injector pump. The thump speed increases w/engine speed. Anybody ever heard this from your truck, or have any soggestions on what could be causing it? Thanks
