Turbo Problems, Maybe?
Turbo Problems, Maybe?
My truck started a few thousand miles back with this weird noise during accelerating. Its most noticeable around 2,000 RPM's. If I rev it up in park I can hear a noise it sounds to be coming from the turbo. It kind of sounds like a bunch of crickets when driving down the road. I don't know that much about diagnosing, could this be the bearing? or any other ideas?
Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help.
It`s no trouble to take the rubber hose (intake side) off the turbo. Take it off & feel for slack in the turbo wheel. If a bearing is going out I think you will feel it. Also you could get someone to crank your truck while you watched the turbo & listened to it. If the noise is coming from it it will be much louder without the intake tube on. If you find a problem with it, it`s not a big job to replace, just $$ for the new one.
I took the intake off. The noise is definitely coming from the turbo area we started the truck with the intake off and could hear it. I spun the wheel by hand and the wheel spins very freely and I heard no noise doing it by hand. I tried to move it up and down and felt a very very very small amount of play.
Had the truck in the shop today, there telling me problem is injector clatter. Does this sound right. They said just use a fuel additive and it will go away. Appreciate any input. They said they checked the turbo and it was like new
Get some Lucas fuel cleaner. Put about twice what the bottle says. You should hear a difference within a few miles if it`s your injectors. It will make it run quieter even if the truck is running great. If that`s the problem buy it at a truck dealer by the gallon, it`s much cheaper that way. Good luck.
